Anderson's Conn Valley Estate Reserve Napa Valley Cabernet 2007

Anderson's Conn Valley Estate Reserve Napa Valley Cabernet 2007

  • Robert Parker, Jr. 93-95+
Robert Parker, Jr.'s The Wine Advocate:  Rated as An outstanding wine of exceptional complexity and character.  "Pure creme de cassis intertwined with floral and licorice notes are present in the inky/purple-colored 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve. Rich, full-bodied, and meant for long-term aging, it should hit its peak in 7-8 years, and evolve for 25-30 years. These brilliant 2007s are some of the strongest efforts that have emerged from Anderson’s Conn Valley Vineyards over the last decade.  Todd Anderson and his winemaker, Mac Sawyer, are on top of their game at this backwater winery tucked away in Conn Valley, a few miles east of the Meadowood Resort. Anderson’s Conn Valley Vineyards became famous because of their long-lived, impressive 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from their estate vineyards in Conn Valley".  Dec 2009

"The 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon is, not surprisingly, loaded with potential. It is flamboyant and silky-textured, a real head-turner thanks to the sweetness of the tannins, the purity of the black and blue fruits, and the full-bodied texture that comes at you in waves of lush fruit. This is a beauty, but don’t be deceived, given how forward the wine shows, into thinking it lacks aging potential. Although the tannins are melted and integrated, this wine will have no problem lasting for at least two-plus decades."  Dec 2008

Winery:  "Classic Conn Valley bouquet, cassis, cigar box, black pepper and crushed granite. Complex and dense. Full bodied, blackberries, sweet tannins, coffee, chewy and concentrated long finish, lingering aftertaste. Should age effortlessly 20-25 years."

Wired For Wine:  Hang onto your hats winelovers, lest they blow away when this Anderson's Conn Valley Estate Reserve Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon walks through the door.  This gorgeous dark purple wine is a "real head-turner", but unlike with people, it's going to be just as beautiful 20 years down the road.  Hmmm.  For the holidays, or for a special occasion in the future?  Make sure you get enough because the likes of this Napa Cabernet are few and far between.  Open your first bottle and give it a little time to open if you are able.  The earthy notes of coffee and black pepper will come alive with hors d'ouevres of Moroccan-style lamb meatballs with lemon juice and mint sprinkled on top.  Robust meats such as beef, lamb and heartier game are a must with this inky Napa Cab.  The lush fruit, sweet tannins, peppery full body and concentrated finish will combine and have you eating out of its hand by meal's end.  The complexity and gentle notes of spice of this Anderson's Conn Valley are delicious with a roasted rosemary filet of beef and Cabernet sauce.  A lovely nod to the sweet tannins would be grilled rib lamb chops served with new potatoes and asparagus with toasted hazelnuts.  You won't want the meal to end so we say go for the cheese course and dessert.  Why not??  This Reserve Cabernet's silky texture is spellbinding opposite the potent density of an Italian Bra Duro cheese.  Open another bottle and prepare everyone for just one more priceless combination.  Bittersweet chocolate pots de creme, topped with a single drunken cherry will touch on the notes of cassis and pure fruit in this California red, and ought to bring the house down.  Don't fight it winelovers, just surrender.
