Banfi Brunello di Montalcino 2006 Pre-Sell

  • James Suckling 95
  • Est Ship Date May 9
James Suckling:  Rated as A+, a must buy.  "Lots of sandalwood, with blueberry and blackberry aromas and hints of dried flowers. Cola too. Full body, with fine tannins and a long caressing finish. It’s so integrated and refined. The tannins are finely knit. Benchmark for the style and excellence of the vintage. Best after 2013." Jan 2011

"I still think that the 2006 vintage for Brunello is the new benchmark for the region, just like 1997 was more than a decade ago." -James Suckling

Winery:   "The gradual ripening of the grapes favored an excellent evolution of the tannins, which resulted in a smooth, harmonious wine, yet one with great power and intense varietal expression. Deep red color, with a garnet hue. The aromas are very complex, with hints of plum jam, tobacco, and a note of licorice. Characterized by a powerful but soft structure, on the palate it is full and harmonious, with a very persistent finish. A Brunello di Montalcino ideal for a long aging."

Wired For Wine:  Your cellar will twinkle more brightly with the addition of this Castello Banfi Brunello di Montalcino.  Truly a noteable Tuscan jewel, this Brunello is a showstopper which is suitable for any special occasion, or just because.  It is approachable now, but will be even finer if you are able to wait a bit.  If it's now, we say open it and display it in your favorite decanter for a bit while you prepare the bite-sized asparagus-mushroom tarts.  It will disappear quickly so make sure you get a generous pour...  The exquisite tannins, lush, dark fruit, suggestions of cola and licorice and a full body that will make your heart thump all come together in this stunning Banfi, making it the ideal companion for meats, game and game birds.  Bring on your best delicious, winelovers!  Grilled, butterflied leg of lamb slathered and marinated in fresh rosemary, garlic and mustard might cause light-headedness.  A hearty, earthy dish of fettuccine with duck ragu and freshly grated, top notch Parmesan will work beautifully too.  Pepper-crusted elk with a horseradish cream is the perfect choice if you're in the mood for game.  Indulge yourself in another glass and an Italian Gorgonzola cheese.  The big dark fruit of this Tuscan Brunello will create excitement in your mouth and prepare your palate for the explosive flavors of this potent cheese.  Quando cominciamo?!
