Bodegas y Vinedos Ponce Clos Lojen Bobal 2006
Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate: Rated as An outstanding wine of exceptional complexity and character. "The 2009 Clos Lojen was fermented whole cluster and then aged in tank. Purple/black in color, it displays a bouquet of Asian spices, leather, tobacco, black cherry, and black raspberry fruit that leaps from the glass. Dense, rich, and vibrant on the palate with lively acidity that gives the wine remarkable lift for its size, it has the balance and structure to blossom for another 1-2 years but can be approached now. It is a great value that over-delivers big-time. Bodegas y Vinedos Ponce farms biodynamically, producing wines from the indigenous variety Bobal."
Wired For Wine: What do you do when you read the words "It is a great value that over-delivers big-time" in a Wine Advocate review? Get on your ordering outfit, of course, and then say hola preciosa to this spellbindingly delicious Bodegas Y Vinedos Ponce Clos Lojen. It is a muy macho Spanish red with gorgeous layers of smoke, toast, herbs and intense black cherry. Pour your first rich, vibrant glass and savor it with some tapas; we suggest chorizo finished with sherry, your favorite olives and jamon croquettas. Moving right along, the dense black cherry and raspberry, earthy leather and tobacco, spice notes and terrific acidity of this Spanish Bobal combine beautifully to pair well with grilled, roasted and braised meats, somewhat strong cheeses and a lot more. We love this Ponce Clos Lojen with pinchos muronos, lamb skewers. Marinate them the way you like, and don't be shy with the herbs - they will bring out this Bodegas Y Vinedos' earthy side. We're really feeling the fiesta here, so think paella made with duck, chorizo and pork and bring out the brilliant balance and structure of this Spanish red. Roast pork with a warm cherry-apricot jam on the side will beckon the brilliant fruit in the wine. A quick option is simply grilled rib lamb chops dressed with watercress, lemon juice and sea salt; they will mirror the gorgeous acidity of this Bodegas Y Vinedos. Open another bottle and embrace the classic Spanish finale: a hard, nutty Manchego cheese with Membrillo, quince paste. Abundantes comer winelovers! Size: 750ml Varietal: Bobal Alcohol: 13.5% Region: D. O. Manchuela, Spain |
