Valderiz Senorio de Valdehermoso Roble 2008
Robert Parker, Jr.-The Wine Advocate: Rated as An outstanding wine of exceptional complexity and character. "The 2008 Roble spent 6 months in French oak. It delivers a more complex aromatic array with scents of cedar, tobacco, lavender, black cherry, and blackberry. Layered and plush on the palate with loads of savory fruit, this balanced offering will evolve for 1-2 years but can be approached now. It is also a terrific value that will provide pleasure over the next 6 years. Drink from 2010-2016." Apr 2010
Winery: "With this wine, we at Señorío de Valdehermoso wish to represent the deep rooted bond between a vine grower and his land. Valdehermoso is one of the properties of the Esteban family. It is located in Roa de Duero at an altitude of 825 metres, and its soil is sandy and calcareous. The wine has been aged for 6 months in barrels of French oak in order to bring out the virtues of our local “tinta del país” varietal. Valdehermoso Roble is a red wine that clearly embodies the varietal characteristics, with intense aromas of very ripe wild fruits mingled harmoniously with spicy and subtle toasty aromas. In the mouth it is very intense but subtle, with a good structure based on sweet tannins. It is very fruity and the fruit combines very well with the wood. It has a nicely flavoured lingering aftertaste which has no astringency, making the consumer wish to continue to enjoy the wine. " Wired For Wine: We are loving the chill in the air, and the winter meals which go with it. This Valderiz Senorio del Valdehermoso Roble is an ideal companion for cold-weather meals, at a price which is downright dreamy... Open that first bottle and be careful not to get trampled when you bring in an assorted platter of Pan de Ajo (garlic bread bites), grilled Chorizo chunks and Marcona almonds. Gran comienzo! The wild, ripe fruit and spice in this Spanish Roble are balanced by its cedar and tobacco notes, wrapped in sweet tannins and held together by a well-woven structure, making it a great match for beef, lamb, game birds and roasted poultry alike. One of our favorites with this Valderiz is pan-seared duck breasts with gingered cranberries. More substantial and equally delicious with the earthy side of this Ribera Del Duero red is a butterflied, grilled leg of lamb with mushroom and potato hash browns. Be still mi corazón! If it's comfort food you are craving, we suggest a crisp, oven-roasted chicken stuffed loosely with garlic cloves and lemon slices. It ought to do the trick nicely with this killer Tinta Del Pais. For a happy ending to what can only have been a joyous occasion, we say open another bottle and settle in with a Spanish Serena cheese. It is at once rich and creamy, earthy and pungent; in other words, perfect for this Tempranillo. Take that cup o' kindness, winelovers, and be sure that old acquaintances are ne'er forgot! To a memorable 2011. Cheers! Size: 750ml Varietal: Tinta Del Pais (Tempranillo) Alcohol: 13.5% Ageing: 6 months in French oak (80%) and American oak (20%) Region: Ribera Del Duero, Castilla Leon, Spain |
