Cantine del Notaio Aglianico del Vulture Il Repertorio 2007
Robert Parker, Jr.-The Wine Advocate: Rated as An outstanding wine of exceptional complexity and character. "The 2007 Aglianico del Vulture Il Repertorio is a fabulous, juicy Aglianico bursting with perfumed jammy fruit, dried flowers, minerals and herbs. The French oak lends volume and richness but the wood is beautifully integrated with the fruit. Soft and seamless through to the finish, the Repertorio offers superb balance and a long, supple finish. If given some time in the glass, the wine opens up beautifully. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2017.
This is a fabulous set of new releases from Cantine del Notaio, one of Basilicata’s leading estates. From top to bottom, these may very well be the finest wines I have ever tasted here." Jun 2010 Winery: "With a deep purple color with a touch of ruby, Repertorio reveals notes of primary fruit, with fresh cherry and strawberry on the nose, a prelude to this pleasantly rich, fruit-forward wine with hints of vanilla, white pepper and soft tannins. It is a great medium-bodied red to accompany any meal and to drink by the glass." About Aglianico: The Aglianico grape has been cultivated since before Rome existed, some 3,000 years or so, and is referred to by some as "the Barolo of the South". According to one Italian food guide, because the grape has had thousands of years to adapt to it's terroir, "it has done so superbly". It tends to be a deep ruby red to garnet with a very distinctive bouquet with strong berry and fruit overtones, and a dry, well structured body with nice tannins that become velvety with age. Where can I get some of that?? Wired For Wine: The seasons are changing, so it's time to remind you to get out of any wine rut you might be in. If you haven't tried an Aglianico, you'll want to sample this Cantine del Notaio Aglianico del Vulture Il Repertorio. It will help you ring in the fall very nicely indeed. Andiamo! Open your first bottle and let it breathe while you assemble the shredded peppercorn- and thyme-roasted goose on paper thin white toasts. Then you can let the wowing begin... The juicy fresh and jammy fruit, herbs, dried floral notes, silky tannins, scintilla of white pepper and impeccable balance of this Italian red are fantastic with roasted meats from beef to lamb to game. Baked pastas are pretty tasty alongside it too. Once we feel that chill in the air, we crave things cooked in the oven. Our first suggestions with this luscious Anglianico del Vulture is roasted lamb racks with potatoes, red onions and garlic cloves. Red wine braised short ribs are another delicious option. If it's casual, a spicy sausage pizza with the rich fruit in this Cantine del Notaio will be a memorable combination. At this price, be sure to have backup because you will need it. Refill your glasses and enjoy them with a potent Provolone cheese for the perfect ending. You should have only one word for us at this point: Si!
