Dashwood Sauvignon Blanc 2010
Wine Spectator: Rated as Very good: a wine with special qualities. "Lip-smacking, with a mouthwatering acidity that gives a wonderful freshness to the pineapple, melon, peach and ripe mango flavors. Persists on the long finish. Drink now." May 2011
Winemaker: "Dashwood Sauvignon Blanc is pale straw in colour. The nose has stone fruit, citrus and fresh tropical notes that leap from the glass. The palate is expressive with stone fruit, citrus and fresh tropical flavours that linger on through the crisp finish. Fruit from both the Awatere and Wairau Valleys of Marlborough were blended to add an extra dimension to the wine. The Wairau Valley fruit lifts the aromatics whilst the Awatere component adds an appealing mineral note." Wired For Wine: This Dashwood Sauvignon Blanc is a yet another fantastic summer sipper which will brighten any occasion. It's perfect as a fresh aperitif on its own, but just as good with individual shooters of spicy, creamy, tomatoey Thai soup with lime shrimp. Hungry yet? The lovely stone, tropical and citrus fruits in this Sauvignon Blanc, along with its alluring acidity and crisp finish make it a sought after companion for chicken, fish, seafood, and vegetables both cooked and raw. We love this New Zealand white with pineapple and cardomom chicken with mint. The sauce in the dish has butter stirred in at the end, making it beautifully rich, the ideal foil for this Dashwood's "mouthwatering acidity". A glazed pork loin with cilantro and garlic will work nicely too. A lighter choice, good for dinner or lunch, is a lobster, soy chicken and mango salad. The saltiness of the soy is spectacular against the ripe fruit in the wine. Just when your diners think it's gotten as good as it can get, open at least one more bottle and offer up a plate of Wabash Cannonballs. They are American chevre cheese nuggets which have a hint of citrus on the palate that's utterly irresistible. We kind of love their name too... Thirsty yet??
