Dynamite Vineyards Red Blend 2006
Winery: "Dynamite Red is a delicious blend of enticing grapes. We start with Merlot; add of bit of Syrah, Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon and other tasty varietals and end up with a huge burst of flavors. Fruit forward with smooth layers of mixed berries intermingling with alluring spices and a pleasing finish. The red blend is a winemaker’s wine. It allows us the flexibility to craft an ultimate blend of varietals for an elegant, supple wine exploding with flavors. To do this, we picked the fruit at the peak of ripeness and vinified each varietal individually. To extract maximum character, we pumped the juice over the rising cap of skins three times a day. After the wine was aged in French and American oak barrels for 18 months, the varietals were blended together."
Wired For Wine: This Dynamite is the mother of all "bang for your buck"! We love this wine, and always have at least 6 bottles on hand because it is so delicious. It is on the full end of medium-bodied and juicy with the perfect hint of fruit, so it goes with just about anything save delicate fish dishes. Beef, lamb, duck, pork loin, veal, and even tuna to name a few. It is great with tomatoes and grilled mushrooms, and so a natural with many pizzas. Try a tender rump roast and some luscious gravy (it stands up beautifully to rich sauces), toasted orzo and skinny French beans tossed with butter and slivered almonds. Fantastic. Before dinner, we had a glass with some Gorgonzola dolce and let it all melt in our mouths; a medium-sharp cheddar would be great too. The Dynamite doesn't even need the cheese to start off the meal, though; it is a treat all by itself.
