Elio Altare Vigna Larigi Piedmont Barbera 2007
Robert Parker, Jr. - The Wine Advocate: Rated as An outstanding wine of exceptional complexity and character. "The 2007 Langhe Larigi (Barbera) is a pretty, layered Barbera laced with perfumed fruit. The wine shows superb balance in a medium-bodied style framed by silky, elegant tannins. The 2007 is shaping up to be another terrific Larigi in the style of the 2001 and 2004. After having tasted every vintage of this wine back to 1985 earlier this year (see my article on www.erobertparker.com) it is clear Larigi is among the very finest Barberas made in Piedmont today. The 2007 can be enjoyed upon release but it will be better in another few years and should drink splendidly to age 20 and likely beyond. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2027.
I was completely blown away by Elio Altare’s 2007s. The wines show incredible purity of fruit, rich, textured personalities, soft tannins and sublime overall balance. This is one of the very finest young vintages I have tasted here." Oct 2009 Winery: "The colour is a very dense purple red. Taste is warm, soft, and intense, with silky tannins, pleasant acidity, and the flavor of berries and red cherries. The nose is very persistent, showing intense red fruits." "I'm a farmer, I know the hard work from the past times. I was here when farmers would plough the vineyards with an ox and I did it myself until I was twenty. This way I learned to respect work and the land."- Elio Altare Wired For Wine: From legendary winemaker Elio Altare, who benefits from the expertise and skilled craftsmanship of generations before him, we bring you Elio Altare Vigna Larigi, a stunningly delicious Barbera from Piedmont. Buckle up winelovers; it's going to be a memorable ride. Mr. Galloni from The Wine Advocate believes that this wine is best cellared for a little longer, but we won't tell if you can't wait. When you do open this gorgeous Italian, we say luxuriate in your first glass with bite-sized pieces of homemade pepperoni pizza. The exquisite balance, intense, perfumed fruit, lovely acidity and velvety tannins make this Barbera perfect for grilled and roasted meats, tomato sauces, potent cheeses and a whole lot more (think meaty holiday fare). Because we think all the red sauces in Italian food are made for this Piedmont red, we suggest chicken cacciatore to go with this amazing Elio Altare. Sweet and tangy barbecued spareribs will echo the succulent fruit and acidity in this Larigi beautifully. If casual comfort food is on the menu, you won't believe how well this Italian will get on with juicy bacon cheddar cheeseburgers. Sia ancora il mio cuore battentesi… Your diners will not leave until another bottle is shared, so top off their glasses and serve a top shelf Pecorino cheese. It has just the right bite for this masterfully crafted Italian red. La vita è breve; bevanda su winelovers!
