Flechas de Los Andes Gran Corte Malbec 2006

Flechas de Los Andes Gran Corte Malbec 2006

  • Robert Parker, Jr 94
Robert Parker, Jr., Wine Advocate:  Rated as An outstanding wine of exceptional complexity and character.  "Flechas de Los Andes’ 2006 Gran Corte spent 17 months in new French oak. It is opaque purple-colored with legs that ooze down the glass. The aromatics are brooding but expressive with notes of pain grille, spice box, lavender, black cherry, and plum. Opulent, with glossy fruit, this dense, rich effort conceals significant underlying structure."  Aug 2009

Wired For Wine:  Flechas de Los Andes means "arrows of the Andes", and this arrow is  going straight for your heart.  Brought to you by a veritable Who's Who of Bordeaux (learn more), the mouthfilling palate of this exquisite Argentinian Malbec blend can only result in one thing: love at first sip.  Typically, Malbecs are great with beef, lamb, other meats and grilled steaks.  Take the extra meatiness that comes with the Syrah in this blend and you have an intense nectar packed with personality more than ready to do the job.  Ever had Argentinian mixed grill?  Our favorite was pieces of filet wrapped in bacon, fired beautifully on the spit until there was just the right amount of char along the edge.  A delicious balance to those glossy fruits.  Because of the wow factor of the Gran Corte, you could really impress a crowd with your favorite standing rib roast recipe.  Serve it with a big platter of garlicky sauteed spinach or baked tomatoes and shallots.  Barbecued pork chops would be wonderful too.  The fruits make this Argentinian treasure a sure bet with chilis, chipotles and other Mexican spices and dishes.  So if you're not looking to impress a crowd, and take the night off, how about bringing in some Mexican takeout with a little fire in the sauce, and just treat yourself?  Vayamos!
