Freemark Abbey Napa Valley Chardonnay 2009
Wine Enthusiast Designated an "Editor's Choice" and rated as Excellent, extremely well made and highly recommended. "This is an oaky, leesy Chardonnay, and quite a good one. Although it’s super rich in fruit, it shows a crisply acidic minerality that grounds it and makes it serious. That fruit is wildly forward in pineapple tart, pear butter, Key lime pie and golden apricot." Nov 2010
Winery "Our Chardonnay is concentrated with ripe stone fruit aromas and flavors, with an underlying subtle toasty oak complexity. Very ripe peach with ripe banana is interlaced with vanilla, lime-aide, clove, nutmeg and pineapple upside down cake. This wine has great viscosity, depth and a crisp long fruitful finish. The flavors in the palate are predominantly citrus, like orange, mandarin and sweet grapefruit with a honey suckle nuance." Wired for Wine The Freemark Abbey winery has been in operation since 1886, when Josephine Marlin Tychson became the first woman to build and operate a winery in California. The long history begun by Ms. Tychson's winemaking shows its stellar progress in today's Chardonnay. There is no faster way to get everybody to gather round than by popping open your first bottle of Freemark Abbeye Napa Valley Chardonnay and serving dungeoness crab martini glassfuls with avocado and smoked onion vinaigrette. Make mine a double! If you are able to tear yourselves away for an entree, rest assured that you have many options. Chicken, seafood, shellfish, and butter and cream sauces will cozy up to the ripe array of fruit which is reigned in beautifully by the counterbalance of crisply acidic minerality. The fruit and citrus notes of this Freemark white will be fantastic opposite a tangy rock shrimp salsa topping on sauteed salmon and a perfectly browned corn cake. Another choice which will bring out the lovely toast and oak of this Napa Chardonnay is grilled swordfish with a Sicilian sauce of golden raisins, parsley, pine nuts and fresh tomatoes. For those of you thinking ahead who prefer white wine with your turkey, stock up for the relatives and serve this addictively good Chardonnay with an herb-salted roast turkey with shallot-dijon gravy for Thanksgiving... After all the dishes are cleared, we suggest opening another bottle and serving it with a tart lemon meringue pie. It will bring all of the luscious, caramelized fruit flavors in the wine together, and make for a really big finish. Good night that's tasty!!
