Henry Fessy Moulin-a-Vent Crus du Beaujolais 2009

Henry Fessy Moulin-a-Vent Crus du Beaujolais 2009

  • Wine Spectator Smart Buy
  • Wine Spectator 90
Wine Spectator:  Rated as Outstanding: a wine of superior character and style.  "A lovely, dark and smoky red, displaying brambly blackberry, ripe plum and crème de cassis fruit flavors. Lush and velvety, with fine balance and dusty tannins on the dark chocolate-tinged finish. Drink now through 2015. 1,800 cases imported." Dec 2010

Wine Advocate:  "...the 2009 Beaujolais are gloriously generous and genuinely complex, as fine as any wines from this region in recent memory." David Schildknecht

Louis-Fabrice Latour:  "Beaujolais wines are the future, easy to drink, not too high in alcohol and with a lot of fruit."

Winery:   "A complex nose offering dark fruits such as blackberries and black currants, coffee and hints of chocolate. Lovely concentration in this wine of character that boasts round and well-integrated tannins."

Wired For Wine:  Straight from France, this Henry Fessy Moulin-à-Vent Crus du Beaujolais will really make you sit up straight after your first sip.  No wonder it's a best buy, at this price, it's not easy to find a dark, smoky Crus du Beaujolais as complex and concentrated.  We love the velvety texture and dusty tannins of this Moulin-à-Vent with an assortment of charcuterie.  Pour those first glasses and stand back as everyone dives into a platter of jambon blanc (white ham), hard sausage, cornichons, and rillettes de porc with crusty baguette slices.  You may not want an entree after that...  If you do, the lush dark fruit, earthy notes of coffee, and beautiful concentration allow this Henry Fessy to pair seamlessly with roast chicken, sausage, pork chops, veal, and even beef.  We suggest a veal roast with a decadent chanterelle mushroom sauce.  A twist on a casual classic would be a roast chicken BLT on an artisanal bread of your choice.  Grilled pork chops with a garlicky plum compote on the side will satisfy nicely too.  Have another bottle waiting in the wings, and open it to go with a young, fresh chevre cheese.  Mr. Latour says these wines are "the future"; get on board winelovers!!
