Joel Gott Monterey Chardonnay 2009
Wine Enthusiast: Rated as Excellent, extremely well made and highly recommended. "Believe me, you won’t miss the oak barrel influence on this wine. It’s so good all by itself. Brightened with crisp Monterey acidity and totally dry, it’s rich in pineapple, tangerine, Meyer lemon, lime, mineral and vanilla flavors that will satisfy your Chardonnay tooth." Mar 2011
Winery: "The 2009 Chardonnay has bright aromas of pear, melon, orange blossom, and honeysuckle. Peach and apricot round out the aromas of this Unoaked Chardonnay. The mouthfeel is round on the mid-pallet and the mouthwatering, crisp acidity makes for a balanced finish. We strive for the style of Burgundy Chablis, preserving the delicious natural acid by not undergoing malo-lactic fermentation and only using stainless steel to ferment. This style of winemaking preserves the purity of fruit and leads to a beautiful and naturally balanced wine." Wired For Wine: When we tried this Joel Gott Monterey Chardonnay, it brought on visions of warm-weather gatherings and outdoor dining... Prepare to enjoy your very own happy visions when you pour your first glasses. We suggest sipping them with crispy creamy rock shrimp with sweet chile aioli and apple slaw. It's gonna be good... Moving right along to the main course, the stunningly crisp acidity, pure fruit, notes of mineral and vanilla and overall gorgeous, bright nature makes this unoaked Chardonnay ideal with chicken, all things from the sea, butter and cream sauces in particular, salads, herbs and more. Sear some scallops and dress them with a tomato beurre blanc for a real treat. The caramelization of the seared edges will be heavenly with the vanilla nuance in this Monterey white. If you're in the mood for pasta then toss a big bowl of linguine with crab, spinach and a lemon-garlic cream sauce. A seafood paella with your favorite nautical fare will do very nicely too. This Joel Gott is a go-to no-brainer with the classic comfort food meal of crisp-roasted chicken with gravy and mashed potatoes. Tuck a little tarragon butter underneath the skin before roasting and you will be thrilled you did. For the finale, we love this California Chardonnay with a creamy goat cheese. A ripe French Chevrot would be our first choice. Gott wine??!!
