Joseph Swan Saralee's Vineyard Pinot Noir 2007
Wine Enthusiast: Rated as Excellent, extremely well made and highly recommended. "Tight in acidity and tannins now, but very complex, offering a range of cherry, tangerine zest, mushroom, cola and Indian spice flavors that swirl to a long finish. The mouthfeel is delicate, but the power is impressive. Drink now–2015." Aug 2011
Winery: "Medium cherry red color. The nose exhibits the usual array of red fruits but this year it is more cherry than strawberry/raspberry. Even though we used a fair amount of new oak it is not evident as the fruit dominates the oak spice. In the mouth it is at once lush and a bit lean, finishing with a bit of grip at the sides of the mouth. Lovely now, better later. (For the record, I will be drink- ing the 2006 for the next couple of years before delving into this wine, or any of the 2007's for that matter. The 2006 pinot noirs have reached a beautiful place and are showing much more than they were even a few months ago.) Wired For Wine: "Lovely now, better later". Your choice though, with this wonderfully complex Joseph Swan Saralee's Vineyard Pinot Noir. We won't tell anyone if you can't wait to open it... Silky and delicious, this beautifully structured Pinot will dazzle your palate with its spectacular nuances and phenomenal balance. The many flavors ranging from gorgeous cherry, to Indian spices, citrus zest, cola and mushroom, combined with taut acidity and tannins allow this dark red to pair seamlessly with duck, salmon, tuna, lean beef and even lamb, as well as musky vegetables and say it with us, winelovers: turkey! Prepare yourself for the wealth of aromas which will woo you the minute you pour your first glass, and then enjoy them with roast, crisp sweatbreads and tangy caperberries. Another terrific starter would be tiny ground lamb and pesto sliders. A lighter meal or lunch dish which we love with the lovely acidity and minerality of this Sonoma Coast Pinot is a seared tuna nicoise salad. The lush side of this Joseph Swan Pinot is perfect with spit-roasted ten herb chicken or grilled salmon with watercress and a hint of horseradish. Both of these will only be better with roasted wild mushrooms and/or a cheesy polenta on the side. Pour just one more glass and sip it with an aged goat cheese which will show off the gorgeous complexity of this ruby rock star. What's on the menu, winelovers??
