Ken Forrester Petit Cabernet-Merlot 2010
Robert Parker, Jr.-The Wine Advocate: Rated as An outstanding wine of exceptional complexity and character. "A blend of 65% Cabernet and 35% Merlot, the marvelous 2010 Petit Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot has a herbaceous, Cru Bourgeois-like nose but is fresh, well defined and full of energy. The palate is vibrant on the entry and embraces Old World freshness and vitality better than most Bordeaux! It has a delicious, crisp peppery fruit with a touch of cedar and graphite on the well-defined finish. The only thing “Petit” about this superb wine is the price. Drink now-2014.
Whilst I have enjoyed more than my fair share of legendary Bordeaux wines, Ken Forrester provides a pertinent reminder that great Cabernet can be made for under ten dollars. You could count the number of Bordeaux chateaux offering equivalent QPR on one finger. This, and the rest of his portfolio represent everything that can be achieved in South Africa: cleanly made, expressive wines at unbeatable prices interspersed with one of two flagship wines that mean business. If you have never tried South African wine before, then I cannot think of a better place to start than here." Aug 2011 Winery: "A youthful wine showing fresh ripe mulberries and plums with a spicy undertone. The perfect all rounder and a must for every wine enthusiast. " Wired For Wine: According to The Wine Advocate's Neal Martin, "The only thing ''Petit'' about this superb wine is the price.". We already love this Ken Forrester Petit Cabernet-Merlot, but the shameless adulation in the review makes us wonder if we have enough for this holiday season... Did you see the rave review above?? Serve up your first bottle with mini chicken empanadas with chorizo, raisins and olives and just watch everybody's eyes start to twinkle. The crisp, fresh fruit, pepper, cedar and spice on this perfect "all rounder" make it a wonderful choice with meats from beef, lamb and steak, to game and even heartier braised chicken dishes. Braised lamb with almonds and mint is our favorite with the herbaceous side of this Cab-Merlot blend. Aged, pepper-crusted rib-eyes with onion puree on the side are fantastic with it as well. Red wine-braised short ribs over creamy rosemary mashed potatoes won't disappoint either. Pop another bottle of this delicious Petit and serve up a room temperature Camembert cheese. We're nut sure about you, but we're ready to eat! Size: 750ml; screw top Varietal: 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 50% Merlot Alcohol: 14.0% Region: Stellenbosch, South Africa |
