La Spinetta Il Gentile di Casanova Super Tuscan 2006

La Spinetta Il Gentile di Casanova Super Tuscan 2006

  • Robert Parker, Jr. 92

  • Robert Parker, Jr.-The Wine Advocate:
Rated as An outstanding wine of exceptional complexity and character. "Scents of super-ripe dark cherries, tobacco, spices and leather waft from the glass as the 2006 Il Gentile di Casanova opens up. A vein of minerality frames the fruit beautifully through to the long, creamy finish. The La Spinetta house style built on ripeness and textural depth is in evidence in this Sangiovese-based red but is not as overdone as in previous wines. This is a gorgeous juice. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2016.  These are two brilliant, absolutely delicious reds from La Spinetta’s Tuscan estate in Terricciola. Readers will have a lot to look forward to if proprietor Giorgio Rivetti and his team can maintain this level of quality going forward. For now, both the Gentile and Colorino are highly recommended for their absolute quality and value." Oct 2010

Winery:  "Intense ruby red color, with a bouquet of the scents of wildflowers, cherries and plum.  The taste is full bodied with sweet tannins, a note of balsamic, and a fine finish with great elegance.  Evolution: 30 years."

Wired For Wine:  Close your eyes and fly away to the hills of Tuscany as you take your first sip of irresistibly delicious La Spinetta Il Gentile di Casanova.  E 'incredibilmente delizioso!   A fitting partner for that first glass will be a mountainous platter of meatball sliders on tiny toasted buns.  How you doin'??  As for the entree, the fantastically ripe cherry, tobacco and leather flavors, combined with the hint of balsamic, sweet tannins and fine, top-notch finish together give many options for terrific pairings.  To access the luscious fruit in this Italian red, rub some veal chops with fresh thyme, garlic and crushed peppercorns, and then roast them in the oven.  Dress them with a pomegranate jus and bask in the murmurs of delight they inspire.  The earthy side of what The Wine Advocate's Antonio Galloni describes as "gorgeous juice" will positively glow next to a rich lasagna with ground veal, sausage, tomato and porcini.  Ciao bellissima.  If you're in the mood for easy prep, the lovely tannins of this La Spinetta are perfect for a classic, grilled bistecca fiorentina (steak the Tuscan/Florentine way).  Give everyone a moment to compose themselves, and then open another bottle with an Italian Fontina Val d'Aosta cheese.  It's earthy and woodsy, and the ideal ending for what will undoubtedly be a memorable meal.  Who are we kidding?? You had us at "close your eyes"...
