Luigi Pira Barolo 2007
Robert Parker, Jr.-The Wine Advocate: Rated as An outstanding wine of exceptional complexity and character. "Pira’s 2007 Barolo is a fabulous entry-level wine that captures the early approachability of the vintage. This is a darker, richer wine than the Nebbiolo, with more depth but not necessarily more complexity. Layers of black cherries, licorice, and leather caress the palate in an inviting, sensual Barolo that shows many of the hallmarks of Serralunga. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2022.
This is a head-spinning set of wines from Luigi Pira from top to bottom. I would be thrilled to drink any of these wines any day of the week. As always, Pira favors a style based on textural richness. At their best, the wines show an equal amount of elegance." Oct 2011 Winery: "Colour: Garnet red with orange reflections. Nose: A classic Barolo, fresh, elegant, leather, hay, earthy and spicy tones. Flavour: Supple, with a good balance between tannins and acidity, persistent ." Wired For Wine: If The Wine Advocate's Antonio Galloni "would be thrilled to drink any of Luigi Pira's 2007 wines any day of the week" then we're getting on that line. This Luigi Pira Barolo will be delicious with an opening number of browned onion and brussel sprout naan. The Black cherries, earth, spice, leather and beautiful balance of tannins and acidity in this Piedmontese must-have are made to go with meats, game and other hearty fare. For the holidays we love the earthiness of this wine with rack of venison stuffed with chestnuts, currants and pears. A quick fix with lots of class which brings out the elegant tannins in this Luigi Pira is grilled filet mignon with Gorgonzola butter. Assolutamente squisito. A steaming bowl of fettucine with veal, sausage and porcini ragù won't get any complaints either. Refill your glasses and enjoy them with a potent yet creamy French Morbier cheese.
