Luna Napa Valley Pinot Grigio 2009
Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: Rated as Excellent. "Pale, bright straw-yellow. Aromatic nose combines orange blossom, fresh hay, honey and a whiff of flowers; a suggestion of alcohol quickly dissipated. The dry, intense palate offers flavors similar to the aromas, turning firmer and more precise with air. Good classic Pinot Grigio." May/Jun 2011
Winery: "The 2009 Pinot Grigio is a light golden color. The nose is scented with grapefruit and pear, and on the palate orange fruits come to the forefront. Mango and orange zest are accented by notes of guava and a pronounced minerality. The wonderful acidity and full-bodied texture carry through a delicious lemony finish with hints of apricot. This wine will be at its peak from now through the end of 2012." Wired For Wine: Summer is slipping away, winelovers, so it's time for that last hurrah with this Luna Napa Valley Pinot Grigio. Savor your first cool glass with a sliver of chevre and onion tart and the notion of impending colder temperatures will just bounce off you. The perfect acidity, many iterations of orange and citrus, minerality and full texture of this Napa white make it a first choice with chicken, fish, seafood, pork and more. One of our favorite partners for this Pinot Grigio is golden-brown chicken schnitzel with lemon and capers. For those of you craving shellfish, make it shrimp scampi pasta. And for some late summer wow factor, the hands down winner is Porchetta. Overlap thin slices of orange all over a piece of pork belly and then wrap that around a pork loin. Roast until a crisp, beautiful brown and a to-die-for delicious. Make sure there's another bottle on ice, and then serve it with a smoked Gouda cheese. Talk about la bella Luna...
