MacRostie Wildcat Mountain Vineyard Syrah 2006
Wine Enthusiast: Rated as Excellent, extremely well made and highly recommended. "Here’s a vintage-driven wine that needs the right conditions to succeed, which 2006 provided with its long, cool hangtime. The fruit has ripened to perfection, offering deep flavor notes of blackberries and raspberries. But there are also exotic and delicious notes of bacon, mocha and cola with a blast of black pepper throughout. The wine is full-bodied and dense in tannins, impressive from start to finish. Great now, and should age for 4–6 years." Dec 2010
Winery: "Typically opaque purple color, with aromas of dark plum and ripe blueberries, plus the usual dash of black pepper. Chocolaty, almost café mocha richness, with big blackberry jam flavors leading into a long, lush, creamy finish. Goes on and on." Wired For Wine: Say hello to MacRostie's Wildcat Mountain Valley Syrah. Nothing to fear from this Wildcat, winelovers, just the heights of its deliciousness. Top off your first glasses and follow your noses to the heady aromas coming from a platter of curried lamb samosas with apricot chutney on the side. What a beginning! The perfectly ripe, lush dark fruit, enticing notes of mocha, cola, and black pepper, as well as dense tannins in this full bodied Mountain Vineyard Syrah make it a lovely partner for most hearty meats, duck, sausage and a lot more. We love it with duck breasts and slow-braised lentils and sage. Très français, we say... Highlight the magnificent tannins with a dish of grilled beef tenderloin sauced with a double mushroom ragoût. And finally, if you're going casual, we suggest a comfort food favorite of ours, chicken chorizo hash. It will be the ideal amount of spice for this impressive MacRostie. Take a little breather and then refill everyone's glasses to go with an English Double Gloucester cheese. It has a gently tangy flavor which is made for this Wildcat. Meeeeeow!
