Marie de Beauregard Vouvray 2009
Wine Spectator: Rated as Outstanding: a wine of superior character and style. "Ripe and mouthfilling, with layers of pear eau de vie, quince, dried persimmon and ginger that unfold slowly, all while a lively minerality cuts through. The long finish shows lovely definition. Drink now through 2016. 1,200 cases imported." Web only 2011
Winery: "Marie de Beauregard Vouvray is a very well balanced wine. The mouth is semi dry with delicate wooded overtones typical of the Pineau de la Loire (chenin blanc) varietal. Linden and honeysuckle fragrances are finely shaded by mineral overtones. A good balanced mouth is highlighted on the finish with a wonderful nose of white fruits." Wired For Wine: Brian Duncan, wine director of Chicago's Bin 36 says "Vouvray is one of the most food-friendly wines." We couldn't agree more, so bring you this Marie de Beauregard Vouvray as our next in a long line of holiday gifts... Your first chilled glasses will be terrific with most any appetizer on the light side. We love to snack on a bowl of toasted almonds dusted with some cumin, Garam Masala, salt and a tiny bit of sugar. As for the main course, the perfume of pear eau de vie, ginger, quince, persimmon and honeysuckle, lively minerality, delicate woodsy notes of this beautifully balanced Loire Valley white make it an easy fit with white fish, scallops, lobster, fried foods and more. For the hint of woods in this vivacious Vouvray we highly recommend smoked trout cakes with horseradish cream. Très savoureux. Pan-seared scallops with ginger lime beurre blanc is perfect for the intoxicating floral and white fruits in this French white. A delicious lunch or brunch choice would be a classic Quicke Lorraine. This Marie de Beauregard is fantastic with fruits and fruit tarts if you're in the mood for something sweet, otherwise, serve up your favorite chalky chevre cheese and celebrate the gorgeous minerality of this wine.
