Mille e Una Notte Donnafugata Red Blend 2005
Wine Enthusiast: Rated as "excellent, extremely well made and highly recommended".
"Heres a Nero dAvola (with a small percentage of mystery grapes) that delivers the goods year after year: cinnamon, vanilla bean, pine nut, curry spice and leather round off a deeply concentrated and layered wine that sees 16 months of new French oak. Flavors are reminiscent of Indian spice and turmeric with tight, dusty tannins." Wine Enthusiast, July 2006. For more on rating systems, click here. Winemaker: "A noble version of Nero d'Avola with a dense ruby-red color. The enthralling bouquet calls attention to mature and sweet but not cooked scents and balsamic and floral notes of violets with a light trace of tobacco at the close. A wine with a big structure and a remarkable personality." This wine does well with "extremely complex dishes of red meats and sauces enriched by herbs. Try the wine with cheese, roast lamb, veal and lamb chops." In particular, the winery recommends this wine with "two dishes: Costolettine di Montone Impanate al Timo (breaded lamb cutlets with thyme). Spalla di Vitello al Forno con Patate e Cipollotti (oven-roasted veal shoulder with potatoes and onions)." Size: 750 ml Varietal: Red blend of Nero d'Avola and a small percentage of other varieties. Alcohol: 14% Vintage: 2005 Region: Appellation Contessa Entellina, Sicily & Sardinia, Italy |
