Mollydooker Two Left Feet Red Blend 2009

Mollydooker Two Left Feet Red Blend 2009

  • Robert Parker, Jr. 91+
Robert Parker, Jr. - The Wine Advocate:  Rated as An outstanding wine of exceptional complexity and character. "Blended of 68% Shiraz, 18% Cabernet Sauvignon and 14% Merlot, the 2009 Two Left Feet was aged in 88% American oak and 12% French, 52% new. Very deep garnet-purple in color, it offers pronounced notes of black currant cordial, blueberry pie filling, anise, chocolate and hints of eucalyptus, vanilla and baking spices. Very full-bodied and opulently fruited, the palate is well structured with crisp acid and medium-firm, fine-grained tannins.   Following a challenging 2008 vintage when no Velvet Glove, Gigglepot, Blue Eyed Boy, Enchanted Path or Carnival of Love wines were made, Sparky Marquis and his inimitable Mollydooker line-up is back to firing on all cylinders in 2009." Dec 2010

Winery:   "A powerful blend of all our favourite red varieties, it has incredible depth and complexity."

Wired For Wine:  The Mollydooker Two Left Feet Red Blend suggest clumsiness, and there is a story behind the name.  The wine itself, however, is anything but ungraceful.  Open your first bottle and fill the glasses generously as you enjoy them with crostini of prosciutto, mushrooms, and blue cheese.  The lovely weight and notes of spice will unfold beautifully.  This Mollydooker's opulent, rich nature, succulent fruit and generous spice and pepper are geared to meaty, hearty fare whether it be lamb, beef or veal, or a baked pasta.  We love this Aussi red with black pepper braised lamb shanks with garlic and onions.  For a slightly less classic pairing, try the Two Left Feet with grilled sausage and fig pizza with goat cheese.  This opaque crimson, generous blend is fantastic with lasagna rolls with roasted tomato and eggplant too.  What'll it be, winelovers?  The operative word will probably be "more", so open another bottle and settle in with a French Saint Marcellin cheese.  It's soft and creamy with a heady, mushroomy aroma which is perfect for this McLaren Vale's long, focused finish.  Where's my glass??
