Montes Cherub Rose of Syrah 2008
Stephen Tanzer, IWC: "Deep pink. Peppery red berry and cherry aromas are complemented by licorice and pungent herbs. Sappy and rich on the palate, offering powerful red berry and bitter cherry flavors and very finishing grip. This serious pink wine could stand up to strongly seasoned foods. Stephen Tanzer, IWC, March/April, 2009
Winery: "An elegant, dry Ros wine. This seductive wine is fresh and well balanced. It has a bright intense pink color. Both on the nose and palate it has a distinct Syrah character, with some spiciness and hints of strawberries and lively floral flavors, mainly Roses as well as orange peel. With good fruit concentration it shows richness in texture across the palate that leads to a delightfully long finish. This is a fresh, young fruity wine. We suggest drinking it within the first two years (until 2010). This wine will benefit from decanting (30 minutes) before serving. Recommended serving temperature: 57-59F." Wired for Wine: Julia Child said, "Ross can be served with anything" and indeed they can be enjoyed as an apritif or with food. "Ros is a vastly overlooked category", points out Daniel Johnnes, beverage director of Daniel (NYC). "So much of it's just the image - people are afraid of the image of white Zinfandel, or not being thought of as sophisticated. With Ros, I love grilled sausages, hamburgers, and fish. Ross are one you can serve with even a fairly delicate white-fleshed fish that's been grilled, when preparations could lean more toward red wine. A wine like Ros has the body of a red wine, but it's chilled and refreshing."
