Newton Napa Valley Unfiltered Chardonnay 2007
Wine Enthusiast: Rated as Excellent, extremely well made and highly recommended. "Very dry, a lean, austere Chardonnay currently marked by aloof flavors of lemons, limes and oak. Yet there’s something going on. As the wine warms in the glass it becomes richer, showing hidden pineapple tart, macadamia and crème brûlée. Firm, minerally acidity is there throughout, making for a mouthwatering cleanliness. Drink this streamlined, Chablis-like wine now–2013." Mar 2010
Winery: "The 2007 Unfiltered Chardonnay is an inviting dark straw hue. This powerful wine opens with ripe melon and fig notes layered with allspice, cinnamon and caramel aromas. Flavors of baked pear, poached apple, caramel and fresh pie crust persist on the lingering creamy finish." Wired For Wine: We hope you like poetry, because today we're offering it to you in a bottle... This Newton Unfiiltered Napa Chardonnay just may bring a tear of joy when you open that first cool bottle. Offer full glasses next to a platter of cornmeal-crusted fried oysters with garlic-chive aoili and pass the tissues... Moving right along, this surprising Chardonnay has an affinity for all things of the sea, chicken, many herbs and vegetables and more. The "minerally acidity" is gorgeous opposite rich, buttery or creamy sauces or ingredients. We love to sip this Newton white with a New England clam chowder with smoked bacon as a first course. On a lighter note, a mesclun salad with anchovies and a sherry-shallot vinaigrette is another great start. One of our favorite casual choices to bring out the citrus in this unfiltered Chardonnay is a sinfully delicious lobster roll with shoestring fries on the side. You can thank us later... To match the oak in this Napa Chardonnay, grill some yellowfin tuna and pair it with crispy jasmine rice cakes flecked with scallions. Too good. And finally, if you're feeling like something from across the horizon, we think the gentle spice flavors of this California white are terrific with a dish of Greek Kotoupoulo, charcoal-grilled Cornish hen with lemon potatoes. The lovely caramel, macadamia and pie crust notes in this complex white have persuaded us to go the sweet route for the final course. Open another bottle and savor it with a toasted almond and walnut baklava drizzled with honey lemon. How do we love thee? Let us count the ways...
