Paul Hobbs Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2008

Paul Hobbs Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2008

  • Robert Parker, Jr. 93
Robert Parker, Jr. - The Wine Advocate:  Rated as An outstanding wine of exceptional complexity and character. "This is a winner! It offers up complex aromas of tobacco leaf, damp earth, blackberries and black currants, full-bodied power and more density, depth and structure than the Cross Barn. Already drinkable, it should age effortlessly for two decades.  Drink 2010-2030."

One of California’s most renowned international wine consultants (he consults with 14 bodegas in Argentina, 3 wineries in Chile and also an estate in Armenia), Paul Hobbs is also a well-known consultant in California with his best-known clients being Merus, Stewart Cellars, Clos Pegase and Constant. The 2008 Cabernet Sauvignons all look sensational. As a group, they come close to rivaling the brilliant success Paul Hobbs enjoyed in 2007." Dec 2010

Winery:   "Our 2008 Napa Valley Cabernet derives substantial depth and breadth of character from the diverse terroir represented by these four hallmark vineyards. Concentrated aromas of black currant, mocha and tobacco leaves reveal themselves as this deep crimson wine opens in the glass. A dense, viscous palate coats the mouth with boysenberry, red currant, clove and cassis. Velvety tannins weave together with layers of vanillin, baker’s cocoa, anise and cedar to create a lengthy, expressive finish."

Wired For Wine:  Paul Hobbs has done it again, winelovers!  When you belly up to your first glass of the Paul Hobbs Napa Cabernet Sauvignon you will be blown away by the many, many sophisticated layers, the powerful earthiness, the lush fruit, and the stunning balance which weave this particular masterpiece.  This blockbuster Cab demands hearty meat dishes.  Lamb, beef, game and game birds are the best match.  Pour that starter glass and enjoy it with a rich pasta first course with chicken livers, sage and fresh tomato.  For the entree, we love the seductive smokiness of this Paul Hobbs with a grilled Black Angus rib eye rubbed with porcini mushrooms, served with sinfully delicious garlic fries...  Oh my.  Another great option is a robust dish of ossobuco with a wild mushroom risotto on the side.  An ideal foil to the luscious fruit in the Napa Cabernet are barbecued lamb short ribs with mint.  Clear the plates and decide whether it's going to be sweet or savory.   You won't be disappointed with a decadent bittersweet chocolate pudding as a companion for your last glass or two.  Or, we think this Cabernet is perfect with a sharp, aged cheddar.  What are you hungry for?
