Pulenta La Flor Malbec 2010

Pulenta La Flor Malbec 2010

  • Robert Parker, Jr. 90
  • Imported by: Paul Hobbs!
Robert Parker, Jr.-The Wine Advocate:  Rated as An outstanding wine of exceptional complexity and character. "Pulenta Estate’s 2010 La Flor Malbec (100%) spent 6 months in French oak. It offers up an inviting nose of cedar, spice box, lavender, earthy minerals, and black cherry. This sets the stage for a savory, ripe, layered offering that over-delivers in a big way. Drink this outstanding value over the next 3-4 years." Dec 2011

Winery:  "In the glass, this Malbec reveals deep, dark magenta colors and aromas of violets and black plums. Round, well-structured tannins are integrated into the ripe plum, blueberry, morello cherry and chocolate notes. Hints of wood smoke and caramel linger throughout the lengthy finish. This is an ideal wine to accompany a variety of meats from the grill.
La Flor, like a flower, is a token of praise and admiration, a gift expressing delight and happiness. Unique in its kind among our collection of varieties, its slender stem springs from our native land, the only place in the world where climate and soil allow its development. La Flor has been especially picked out among the finest in our vintage."

Fun Fact: The vineyards of Alto Agrelo well deserve the 'alto' epithet given that they are located at 980 metres above sea-level, with the snow-capped Andes not only providing a scenic backdrop but also a most natural source of water to nourish these rather privileged Malbec grapes.

Wired For Wine:  Imported by none other than Paul Hobbs, and referred to by Parker's Jay Miller as an "outstanding value", this Pulenta La Flor Malbec delivers on all fronts.  We were thinking you could use this deep, dark Argentine red to stop him or her in their tracks for Valentine's Day. Here's what you do: pour a couple of generous glasses, and then trot out the platter of gorgonzola-stuffed figs wrapped in bacon.  That ought to get things off and running.  At least it would for us... If you're not going for the TKO, and dinner might actually be in the cards, this luscious, ripe Pulenta is beautiful next to beef, lamb, and lots of other heartier meat selections.  The floral notes and spice in this Malbec are made to accompany a lamb tikka with crispy onions.   If you're thinking fancy, then black pepper-roasted duck breasts with grilled plums is your answer.  For the perfect tannins, grill up some cumin-rubbed rib-eyes and serve them with two salsas: tomato and cucumber.  Be sure you have enough of this La Flor so that you may enjoy a last course of a melt-in-your-mouth Italian Taleggio cheese.  We love this bouquet of La Flor!
