Ravenswood Barricia Sonoma Zinfandel 2008
Wine Enthusiast: Rated as Excellent, extremely well made and highly recommended. "Zinfandel’s briary, brambly personality is front and center on this wine, which wears its slightly rustic cloak proudly. It’s the quintessential California Zin, dry, complex and peppery, offering a profusion of wild summer berry, licorice and tobacco flavors. One of the great successes of the vintage." Dec 2011" Mar 2010
Winery: "Raspberry, cherry pie, cracked black pepper, and spice-driven scents with hints of coffee and new leather and complexity to the aromas classically associated with Barricia vineyards. Delicious sweet red fruit flavors at the heart of the wine give way to an intense finish with silky tannins and lingering flavors of blackberries and candied cherries. This is a wine with lovely structure and focus." Wired For Wine: Looking for a reason to fire up the grill? How about what Wine Enthusiast describes as "quintessential", and "one of the great successes of the vintage"? The deliciously balanced berry fruit and spice, spot-on complexity, appealing earthiness and luscious tannins of the Ravenswood Barricia Zinfandel are all you need... This is the last we're getting of the vintage; at a special, promotional price; bring the big bag!! Open your first bottle and get right down to the decadence with some warm bbq potato chips and blue cheese/bacon dip. The beautiful fruit of this Zinfandel will balance the salt of the blue cheese and the smoke of the bacon like a champion. The many facets of this Sonoma gem will pair famously with grilled meats, especially those dressed in sweet barbecue sauces. Popular comfort food choices such as burgers and pizza, with sausage, will do very nicely too. We love this Ravenswood with juicy, spicy/sweet barbecued spareribs served with cheddar-black pepper biscuits and sesame slaw. Oh my! A lighter option is toasted pork ravioli with smoked tomato sauce. And, on the easy side, this Sonoma Zin is perfect for burgers with sweet ketchup and spicy cheese fries, or spicy Mexican takeout. Pour those last few glasses and put out a Swiss Gruyere to go with them. The tobacco and leather of this Zinfandel make it a perfect match for this rich, strong, and nutty cheese.
