Ravenswood Big River Alexander Valley Zinfandel 2006
Stephen Tanzer: Rated this as "outstanding".
"Bright ruby. Sexy, pungent aromas of cassis, blackberry and Asian spices. Deep and sweet, offering round, supple dark berry preserve flavors and good spicy snap. Impressively balanced for such a rich wine, with outstanding finishing sweetness and length." International Wine Cellar, May/June, 2008. Winery: "Under the stewardship of Scott and Lynn Adams, Big River is the most meticulously farmed vineyard that Ravenswood has the privilege of using. It's not an exaggeration to say that it's coddled by two mothers: Nature and Nurture. Its grapes respond with healthy, exuberant flavors that, if anything, tip toward the inland direction of Alexander Valley: rich, ripe, soft, round, plush, plummy and spicy. It's an amalgam of attributes that gives new meaning to the term Russian River. Flavor Profile: Black cherries, plums and vanilla, and hints at dill and mint" Wired For Wine: Ravenwood is known for producign terrific red Zinfandels and this is one of their better ones. This one from Big River in Sonoma is the perfect running mate for smoky, barbecued meats - from flank steak rubbed with black pepper to wine- and herb-marinated chicken. Also, this would be terrific with lamp chops. Stilton, blue or feta cheeses would just be superb with this wine.
