Raventos i Blanc L'Hereu Cava Reserva Brut 2008
Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: Rated as Outstanding. "Pale straw with a frothy mousse. Exotically perfumed bouquet of pear, orange, toasty lees and anise, along with a suave floral quality; smells like a white Burgundy. Sappy orchard fruit flavors are complemented by honeysuckle and bitter orange pith. Impressively complex and powerful Cava with a long, smoky, mineral-driven finish." Feb 2010
Winery: "The style, that identity that defines a wine is reflected in the cellar. In the search the clarity and purity will find this sparkling citrus flavor, smooth, with outstanding memories of white fruit and where all elements are in perfect olfactory balance. The wine combines firmness and softness with a creamy bubble. A long and very clean finish." Wired For Wine: It's about time for some bubbly, we think, so we've found an excellent value in this utterly delicious Raventos I Blanc L'Hereu Reserva Brut Cava... The beautiful balance of this Spanish sparkler is perfect for so many appetizers. We love it with Serrano ham, a Petit Basque cheese, Marcona almonds and green olives. There's no telling where the meal could go after that! As you make your way through your first glass of creamy bubbles, you will marvel at the impressive array of floral and citrus notes, the hints of gentle spice, and the smoke and minerals which lend some real elegance to this Raventos I Blanc. They all come together to allow this Reserva Brut to pair well with fish, seafood, pastas, tapas and much more. For the crowd, we love the citrus in this Cava with a huge pan of Spanish noodle paella overflowing with lobster, mussels and scallops. A lighter choice is a big platter of batter-fried sole with paprika salt. You won't be able to stop at just one or two pieces... If you're bringing in takeout, or you're extremely talented in the kitchen, we can't get enough of this bubbler with assorted sushi, shrimp tempura rolls in particular. As for dessert, we say go the traditional route and refill your glasses to enjoy with a fabulous flan. The rich sauce is made for the smoke and toast in this L'Hereu. ¿Quién tiene hambre?
