Ridge Pagani Ranch Zinfandel 2008

Ridge Pagani Ranch Zinfandel 2008

  • Robert Parker, Jr. 94
Robert Parker, Jr.-The Wine Advocate:  Rated as An outstanding wine of exceptional complexity and character. "The 2008 Zinfandel Pagani Ranch is a blend 85% Zinfandel, 10% Alicante Bouschet, and the rest Petite Sirah that tips the scales at a lofty 15% alcohol. Possessing ripe black cherry and blackberry fruit intermixed with some wood spice, earth, and subtle herbs, this wine cuts a broad, rich, full-bodied swath across the palate. More exuberant and richer than the more elegant Lytton Springs, this is full-throttle Zinfandel at its best, but beautifully pure, textured, and long. It should drink well for 7-8 years.  Drink 2011-2019." Feb 2011

Winery:  "Cherry preserve nose, highlighted by red plum, dried cranberry. Appealing mix of exotic fruit and spice on entry, bright flavors enhanced by firm acidity. Structured, balanced. Very long finish."

Wired For Wine:  From the rich, ripe 2008 Sonoma vintage comes another formidable and exotically flavored red, the Ridge Pagani Ranch Zinfandel.  Mr. Parker describes it as "beautifully pure and exuberant".  We couldn't agree more, and love the magic that has been wrought through the blending of these four grapes. Open your first full-bodied bottle and enjoy it with grilled olive and feta stuffed focaccia.  The ripe, lush fruit, sexy spice, terrific acidity and fruit-coated tannins will play very nicely indeed with a myriad of meaty choices from barbecue to lamb, beef, duck and roast turkey,  baked pastas and more.  If you're feeling a little fancy, we suggest black pepper-roasted duck breasts with grilled plums to really bring out the killer fruit in this Pagani Ranch.  If gooey is what you want, then make it ginger and honey baby back ribs.  They will be perfect for showing off the zesty side of this Sonoma Zin.  The beautiful structure and balance of this Ridge red will also do justice to grilled lamb burgers topped with a cherry-balsamic-tomato jam.  Don't forget to toast the buns... After the dishes have been cleared, the perfect ending for this stunner Zin is our favorite blue, a powerful yet still creamy English Stilton cheese.  A fresh, warm, crusty baguette or ficelle is all you need, and of course, another full glass...
