San Filippo Le Lucere Brunello di Montalcino 2006
James Suckling: Rated as "If I rate a wine 95 points or more (A+), it is a must buy." "Loads of sweet berry and cherry on the nose with hints of flowers. Amazing nose. Full body, with super silky tannin structure and a long caressing finish. Integrated and refined. It just keeps building on the palate. Bigger and bigger, yet refined and gorgeous. Give this some bottle age to show its true quality." Jan 2011
Robert Parker, Jr.-The Wine Advocate on the 2006 Montalcino vintage: "“The best 2006s are big, powerful Brunelli with beautifully delineated aromatics, great concentration of fruit and plenty of structure. There are significant differences between the northern and southern parts of the zone, once again demonstrating that Montalcino really must be considered as a group of smaller appellations. The wines of the north are generally more linear, focused and aromatic, while the wines of the south tend to favor a riper, warmer expression of fruit.”—Antonio Galloni Winery: "The colour is ruby red with reflexes verging on garnet. The perfume is intense, fine and elegant, with notes of cherries preserved in alcohol, enriched with spices redolent of cinnamon and cloves. On the palate it explodes in all its fineness and elegance thanks to the dense and silky tannins. Excellent body that renders the flavour harmonious and persistent. Excellent nose-mouth correspondence." Wired For Wine: Ciao cari amici! We do love the lighter summer sippers, but every now and again we get a craving for a deep, dark, delicious red. Consider it our post-Independence Day gift to you... Open your first bottle of San Filippo Le Lucere Brunello di Montalcino and dive into the ruby red pool of intensely good flavor with escarole, bacon crostini with mostarda. Just heavenly. The cherry, hint of spice, dense, silky tannins and refined and elegant full body of this Brunello is ideal with roast meats, game and game birds, as well as hearty pasta dishes. We love to grill up rib lamb chops with white beans prepared the Tuscan way on the side. Pasta with pancetta, prosciutto and cherry tomatoes will bring out the lovely red fruit in this San Filippo. And for those to-die-for velvety tannins, our favorite is Bistecca Fiorentina, or steak grilled the Florentine way, and charred ever so slightly and beautifully. At this point, your diners will think the night is still very young, so best to have a good quality, aged Gouda cheese on hand to go with the next glass or two of Le Lucere. We can't think of a better way to spend an evening!
