Santa Ema Barrel Select Syrah 2006
Winery: "Our Syrah is planted on slopes and vines are carefully managed to produce low yields ensuring maximum expression of the grape. Thus, the Santa Ema Syrah is a wine with a deep and rich red colour and blueish hints. On the nose, the wine displays black fruit aromas of blackberries, blueberries and floral notes that evoke violets. Oak aging contributes with vanilla and chocolate accents. On the palate, the wine is well balanced with ripe tannins and a good structure that creates a long, lingering finish."
Wired For Wine: Okay Super Bowl fans, the Santa Ema Syrah is great for large gatherings. If you're passing hors d'oeuvres, or just having an appetizer, make some delicious mushroom tartlets with shitake and Cremini mushrooms. Your options for the main course are widely varied and will fit most moods and occasions. Great choices for large gatherings are a big pan of sausage/chicken paella, or a hearty cassoulet brimming with duck. A lamb curry dish will do nicely as well, and if you're in the mood for simple, a juicy T-bone grilled to your liking is perfect. This Chilean Barrel Select Syrah is fantastic with hard cheeses, and that's how we would finish off this meal. We love the Sea Hive cheese made here in the U.S. It's made from cow's milk and is hand-rubbed with local wildflower honey and salt, making it a very happy ending... Cielo!
