Seghesio Barolo 2007
James Suckling: "Flowers and berries galore. So aromatic. Full bodied, with velvety tannins and a lots of attractive dried fruits. Lots of blackberries and blueberries. Balance and intensity.”
Winery: "Seghesio’s Barolo is concentrated, big and muscular with pure Nebbiolo aromas, cassis, black cherry, licorice and spicy oak on the nose. Clean, with fresh, soft tannins." Brothers Aldo and Riccardo Seghesio began bottling their wine from their ten-hectares in the La Villa cru in 1988; the cru, in the Castelletto subzone not far from Manzone’s Gramolere, is another one of the most precipitous, best-drained expositions in all of Barolo, reached only by a ride of switchbacks up from the town of Monforte. Seghesio’s Barolo is concentrated, big and muscular with pure Nebbiolo aromas and velvety texture. The estate is no-longer the secret of those in-the-know, ever since the 2004 vintage received 95 points from the Wine Spectator. The Super-Piedmont red “Bouquet” is a luscious blend of Merlot, Cabernet, and Nebbiolo. Their Dolcettos and Barberas are deep, concentrated and bursting with fruit offering great value. Wired For Wine: It's Thursday, so we thought this Aldo e Ricardo Seghesio Barolo a fitting gift... Let everyone know they're in for a real treat when you serve Chinese soup spoons filled with decadent mouthfulls of white truffle risotto to go with their first glass. Careful; you might get a little weak in the knees. I fratelli Seghesio have lovingly crafted this intensely aromatic Barolo, delivering black and blue jammy fruit notes, flowers, smooth tannins, and hints of spice and oak. This Piedmontese prince is perfect with meats and game, rich pasta dishes, powerful cheese and lots more. We can't get enough of this beautiful Barolo with braised short ribs over Parmesan polenta. Sautee some spinach with garlic and let it bring out the soft tannins in the wine. If pasta is on your mind, we say make it pappardelle with a rich duck ragu. The duck will bring out the whisper of oak in the wine. For a Sunday dinner any night of the week, we suggest pot roast with caramelized onions and roasted carrots. The onions and carrots will bring out the gorgeous fruit in this Seghesio after their own sweetness comes out in the cooking. Open another delicious bottle and serve it with an aged French Ossau Iraty cheese. What do we think? In a word: Perfezione!
