Sena 2007

Sena 2007

  • Robert Parker, Jr. 96
Robert Parker, Jr.-The Wine Advocate:  Rated as An extraordinary wine of profound and complex character displaying all the attributes expected of a classic wine of its variety. Worth a special effort to find, purchase and consume.  "Seña was originally a joint project of Eduardo Chadwick, owner of Errazuriz, and the Robert Mondavi empire. Since the demise of Mondavi, Seña is entirely under the control of Chadwick. The fruit is sourced from Sena’s biodynamically farmed vineyard with the 2007 Sena made up of 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Carmenere, 12% Merlot, with the balance Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. It puts forth an enthralling bouquet of sandalwood, underbrush, exotic spices, incense, floral notes, blueberry, and blackcurrant that borders on kinky. Already remarkably complex on the palate, with layered flavors, a plush palate feel, and precision balance, this beautifully rendered offering will evolve for another 6-8 years and provide a drinking window extending from 2016 to 2032." Dec 2010

Winery:  "In the Spanish language, the word Seña is rich with nuance and meaning.  It implies a distinguishing mark or personal signature.  Born in 1995, Seña is the first iconic wine from Chile.  Seña’s mission is to produce a world-class wine that captures the essence of the best grapes and terroir from the Aconcagua Valley. The Seña 2007 has a great colour. An intense, powerful wine, the aromas of which fill the room. Amazing, tarry, bramble and black cherry fruit, with lovely floral edges. Notes of liquorice, and some fresh, lacquered oak. On the palate there's great structure and a full body. Lots of extract, lots of fruit, and that floral, elegant edge comes through. Good acidity. Powerful and balanced. Great, mouthfilling, opulent but masculine texture. Round, ripe tannins on the finish."

Wired For Wine:  How do you say 'world class icon' in Spanish?  Seña.  Initially the creation of wine legend Robert Mondavi and Eduardo Chadwick, this opulent red has grown to become a much sought-after wine which will light up the most interesting of wine collections.  We highly recommend letting it sit quietly for a few more years so that it may achieve more of its incredible potential.  When the day comes, let it breathe as you prepare bites of dark-roasted Chinese-style chicken thighs with ginger and anise to go with that first shockingly delicious glass.  This Seña's earthy side, deep dark fruit, floral nuances, enticing spice, lovely acidity and smooooth tannins make it a no-brainer with lamb, beef and game dishes, and more.  A great choice with this complex, full-bodied Cabernet blend is rosemary roasted buffalo tenderloin with gorgonzola butter.  There will be gasps of delight.  If you're looking to showcase the lush, intense black and blue fruit of this ravishing red, make it braised brisket with prunes and balsamic.   And if you're feeling a little Sideways, savor a delicious glass with peppered lamb burgers and hot tomato jam.  Oh my.  This masterpiece deserves special attention, so we recommend that your meal comes to an end with another glass, no distractions.  Roll around in its opulence and contemplate your good fortune.  We figure you'll only have one thing to say: Más vino por favor!
