Snowden Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc 2007
Wine Spectator: Rated as "Outstanding - a wine of superior character and style."
"Vibrant and tangy, this light-bodied wine has appealing citrusy tangerine, melon, spice and mineral notes. There's great acidity and a good kick of flavors on the finish. Drink now. 600 cases made." Wine Spectator, August, 2009. Robert Parker, Jr., The Wine Advocate: Rated as "An outstanding wine of exceptional complexity and character." "There are 600 cases of the 2007 Sauvignon Blanc, a steely white made in a Loire Valley style. It reveals plenty of melon and honeyed citrus characteristics along with medium body, a surprisingly captivating texture, and good length. Aging on its less has provided additional texture and body, but it is a crisp, pure Sauvignon to enjoy over the next 1-2 years. Qualitatively, Snowden is an awakening giant, but as is the case with many Napa estates, production is limited. These cuvees are produced from one of Napas most privileged sites, 23 acres of beautiful hillside vineyards above the Auberge du Soleil, and adjacent to the Sloan and Hall properties." The Wine Advocate, December, 2008 Winery: "Our Sauvignon blanc shows the purity and character that are the result of minimal intervention and handling. This year's Sauvignon Blanc has a lovely bouquet of melon and honeysuckle. The palate has creamy texture, balanced by a bright acidity. It is the perfect aperitif to open the palate and begin the evening." Wired For Wine: We love a good Sauvignon Blanc, so this elixer is at the top of that list. It's made in the shadow of the Auberge du Soleil; how could it not be spectacular? The bright acidity of the Snowden makes it a fantastic companion for fried chicken. Start with cold asparagus salad tossed with preserved lemon vinaigrette and feel the joy. If you'd like for the meal to be a little dressier, how about pan-seared sea scallops with a luscious, garlicky bacon sauce over a simple risotto? Grilled pork will work beautifully too. Finish off the magic with a light, lemon -yogurt mousse; fresh whipped cream is optional. The Snowden is delicious with herbs and raw tomatoes, so we suggest a couple of tomato bruschetta toasts with a nice cool glass while you ponder the possibilities. What'll it be?
