Thorn-Clarke Shotfire Ridge Shiraz 2008
Robert Parker, Jr.-The Wine Advocate: Rated as An outstanding wine of exceptional complexity and character. "Purple-colored, it offers up a nose of toasty oak, Asian spices, incense, blueberry, and blackberry. On the palate it has excellent flavors in a plush, nearly opulent style. The wine is balanced, rich, fleshy, and ripe. Drink this full-flavored effort over the next 6-8 years.
Thorn-Clarke is a fine source for values from Australia. There are three levels of wine, the Milton Park series lined priced at $13, the Terra Barossa series line priced at $15, and the Shotfire series line priced at $24. Typically they can be found discounted at hard to resist prices." Dec 2009 Winery "Deep red colour. Very lifted and intense nose of blackberry fruit, sweet spice and dark chocolate. The palate is very rich and flavoursome with blackberry and plum fruit. In addition to the primary fruit characters there is plenty of complexity in this wine with spice, earthy notes and graphite also evident. There is heaps of mouthfilling flavour complemented by chalky tannins. There is great length of fruit as well. " Wired For Wine: Hop on the train to delicious with this intoxicatingly aromatic Thorn-Clarke Shotfire Ridge Syrah. Fill your glasses and munch on grilled Ahi sliders slathered with ginger-wasabi mayo. That's what we like to call a great start, winelovers! Moving right along, you will find that the intense dark berry, smoke, toasty oak and gorgeous spice of this Thorn-Clarke will pair famously with grilled meats, barbecue, lamb, duck and a whole lot more. We can't get enough whiskey-grilled baby backs with this chewy, complex Aussi Shiraz. A slightly dressier choice which will bring out the ripe fruit in this Shotfire would be lamb chops with a balsamic reduction. If casual is on the menu, bring out the perky spice with a tailgate chili served next to honey corn bread. Not to worry, there's still plenty of fun to be had. If you're craving dessert, open another bottle and serve it with a spiced plum tart topped with dark caramel ice cream. Or, bring out a bright and gently tangy Double Gloucester cheddar and release the rich, opulent side of this luscious Syrah. The verdict? We think this Shotfire is surefire!
