Two Hands For Love or Money Semillion Dessert Wine 2005

Two Hands For Love or Money Semillion Dessert Wine 2005

  • Robert Parker, Jr. 96
Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate: Rated as An extraordinary wine of profound and complex character displaying all the attributes expected of a classic wine of its variety. Worth a special effort to find, purchase and consume. "The Sauternes-like sweet white, the 2005 Semillon Cane Cut For Love or Money (which was aged in 100% new French oak), possesses 263 grams of residual sugar. This medium gold-colored, honeyed offering displays plenty of caramel, tropical fruit, and creme brulee-like characteristics. A dead-ringer for a top-notch Sauternes, it can be drunk now, but promises to last for 10-15 years." Oct 2006.

Winery: "A powerful and seductive dessert wine. Bright golden colour with intense aromas of honeysuckle and tropical fruits. The palate is luscious and concentrated with hints of honey and spice and a complex array of dried tropical fruit flavours. The finish is clean, fresh and persistent. The perfect accompaniment to a slice of the infamous Roquefort cheese.

Made from cane cut Semillon grapes. Following the hand pruning of 50% of the canes at the point the fruit achieves ripeness the fruit is left to hang for further 4 to 8 weeks. The fruit was then hand picked on four separate occasions, between the end of March through to May, the sugar level varying between 22 and 29 baume. Fermented in new French oak hogsheads where it spent a further 4 months maturing."

Wired For Wine:Who said dessert wines are just for dessert? Not us; that's for sure. In our opinion, the most extraordinary combination with the Two Hands is foie gras. Have itas an appetizer or your main course; there are few things moredelicious or indulgent. We recommend searing the foie gras, setting it on a thick platform of beautifully toasted brioche, and then drizzling a thin stream of cranberry reduction across it. Heaven. You may also start your festivities pairing the For Love or Money with room temperature cheese. Hands down, our favorite is Roquefort, but a soft Fontainbleu will do nicely as well. This course could alsobe the finale to your meal. If you'rehaving it with dessert, make sure that the dish isn't too sweet. Mildly or moderately sweet desserts are best with this Sauternes dead-ringer. Almond, apple peach and pear flavors are all terrific with theTwo Hands nectar, as are custard desserts. Apple tarte tatin, pear clafoutis, and a mango crme brule are our top three choices. How sweet it is winelovers!!
