Yangarra Estate Shiraz 2008

Yangarra Estate Shiraz 2008

  • James Halliday 92
James Halliday:  Rated as Highly recommended. Wines of great quality, style and character, worthy of a place in any cellar. “Fresh and cooked blackberry bouquet, with mocha and fruitcake spice aplenty; rich, warm and showing generosity and depth of fruit to conclude.”  Mar 2010

Winery:  "This wine has feisty yet adult aromas of white pepper, and smells of red Australian earth in the summer. The blackberry and mulberry fruits taste as if they’ve been gently stewed to a conserve, with whole berries remaining in the pulp. The finish is teasing and appetizing with savoury dark green tannins and an elegant, refined attitude."

Wired For Wine:  Come on Mates!  You are going to love not only the generously delicious taste of this Yangarra Estate Shiraz, but its price as well.  Fill your glasses and enjoy them with balsamic glazed roasted grape tomatoes and onions over crostini.  It is a heavenly combination.  Enough about heaven, though, you'll want to think about what's coming after the hors d'oeuvres...  The lovely tannins, great spice, earthy notes and berry fruit of this Aussie red make it a perfect pairing with sweet barbecue, meats, sausage, pizza, mushrooms and much more.  Our first choice hands down is gorgeous, brown and crisp-skinned Peking roast duck.  Be sure and have the hoisin sauce, sliced scallions and paper-thin pancakes to wrap those delectable morsels in.  The spice and fruitcake in the wine will mingle like a charm with the hoisin sauce.  Grilled, pepper-crusted tuna with herbed aioli will do nicely with the savory side of this Yangarra.  If you're doing casual, we can think of nothing better than pulled pork sandwiches on toasted brioche buns with pickled carrots on the side.  Open another bottle or two and finish off the meal with an aged Gouda cheese.  Who's ready to light the barbie??
