Yealands Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2008
Wine Spectator: Rated as Outstanding: a wine of superior character and style. "Bright and focused, offering a lively mouthful of pear, grapefruit and floral aromas and flavors on a juicy frame, finishing with finesse. Drink now." Feb 2010
Winery: "Lifted citrus and fresh herb aromas, underpinned by classic Seaview vineyard characteristics of mineral, nettle and wet stone. A refined, intense wine with generous fruit and an elegant texture. The Seaview vineyard is exposed to some of the toughest growing conditions in Marlborough; high sunshine and wind, cool nights and low rainfall which produces a smaller, thicker skinned berry with intense fruit flavours. The rolling contours of the vineyard result in significant variation (smaller, more intensely flavoured fruit on the ridges, balanced by lush growth in the gullies). In all, over 50 separate parcels of Sauvignon Blanc were harvested from the Seaview Vineyard, with the bouquet of the resulting wines ranging from intense passion fruit through to blackcurrant and fresh herb characters. We harvested individual parcels of Sauvignon Blanc and fermented each parcel individually, with 12 selected for the Yealands Sauvignon Blanc. A long cool fermentation (3 weeks) ensured optimal fruit characteristics were maintained."
