Zerbina Sangiovese di Romagna Superiore 2004
Robert Parker, Jr.-the Wine Advocate: Rated as An outstanding wine of exceptional complexity and character. "The estate’s 2004 Sangiovese di Romagna Superiore Torre di Ceparano is a drop-dead gorgeous wine of notable pedigree. Still incredibly primary, it reveals plenty of dark fruit layered with notes of toasted oak, mint, smoke and tar in a remarkably complete, harmonious style. Simply put, this is a gem from proprietor Cristina Giminiani and is not to be missed. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2014." Aug 2008
Winery: "Torre di Ceparano"Superiore has depth and real breeding. The flavours can be characterized as raspberry, violets, tobacco and vanilla. The palate reveals strong tannins reinforced by the ageing in casks of mainly French and some American oak." Wired For Wine: Some Sundays we crave Italian, and one of our favorites is this Zerbina Sangiovese di Romagna Superiore (Torre di Ceparano). Our favorite with this Sangiovese Superiore is pasta with tomato and/or meat sauces. We love it with a big pan of baked manicotti in a red sauce which has simmered for hours. A simple roast veal dish is another great option. Put a porcini risotto next to that veal and let the wine bring all of those luscious flavors together for you. Oh mio! If your meal is slated towards the simple, the Torre di Ceparano is wonderful with pizza. For a twist, how about one with prosciutto and arugala? Delicious. We don't drink this Sangiovese blend with sweet dishes, so after the serious eating is done, we'll have just one more glass (or two) with a nibble of tangy Provolone. Che perfezione!
