94pts Robert Parker, Jr.'s Wine Advocate

Beckmen Vineyards has quite the following for their notable reds, and this Beckmen Clone #1 Syrah is no exception. It's a full-bodied Syrah that works with everything from pork to lamb and beef. It's the whole package of big, delicious flavors which tend to the earthy side. Decant your first bottle an hour or two before you're ready to drink it, and pull together a Mediterranean carrot salad for your first course. You can follow that with cider-maple pork chops with an apple compote. If you'd like something meatier, make it grilled rib-eyes with a tomato/basil relish. We love a lamb course after the carrot salad, and for the Clone #1, we recommend lamb paillard and eggplant paninis with grilled onions and a garlic aioli. At this point we're confident that you'll agree with us; this #1 is aces.

Robert Parker, Jr.'s Wine Advocate:  "Slightly less aromatic than the Block 6, which is a touch more high toned, the 2014 Syrah Clone No 1 Purisima Mountain (100% Syrah aged 16 months in 45% new French oak) reveals terrific, meaty, savory notes of black fruits, smoked earth, chocolate and caramelized meats. Rich, full-bodied, concentrated and nicely structured on the palate, it needs 2-3 years of bottle age and will keep through 2025." Aug 2016

Winery:  "Tiny yields of under 1 ton per acre and warm vintage conditions combine to create a wine of immense power and density. In fact, this is the most powerful Clone #1 bottling in several years. Meaty and savory, the hallmark of Clone #1, the 2015 shows tons of mineral infused black fruit and floral aromas and flavors. A bit tightly wound right now, the wine will benefit from a year or two of aging and will drink beautifully for 15-20 years. A real blockbuster vintage!"
