Mr. Suckling sums it all up very nicely. The La Spinetta Barolo Campè is worth the wait, allowing time to plan your meal and celebration. We highly recommend waiting a few more years before you partake. When you do, the already ephemoral tannins will be even more subtle, and the stunning fruit more beautiful still. Decant your bottles at least one hour before drinking to maximize your Wow. Your first glasses will be augmented by a platter of beef bresaola drizzled with a good quality EVOO, sprinkled with sea salt. Try winemaker Giorgio Rivetti's recipe for a traditional Piemontese dish, Barolo braised vealxxx. A hearty, steaming pot of porcini mushroom risotto is another delicious pairing for this Campè. Or, a personal favorite, falling-apart tender osso buco. We have two things to say: get enough of this Piemontese perfection, and Cin Cin!

James Suckling:
"This is really something, with superb concentration of fruit and tannins. It’s powerful yet harmonious with a muscular sense and agile feel. Blackberries and strawberries with bark and wet-earth undertones. Goes on for a long time on the palate. Give it three to five years of bottle age to come around. Best after 2024." Jul 2021

Robert Parker, Jr.'s Wine Advocate: "The La Spinetta 2017 Barolo Campè Vürsù sources its fruit from the Garretti vineyard in Grinzane Cavour. The wine shows depth, vertical intensity and quite an impressive range of aromas that span redcurrant and berry to hazelnut paste and earthy truffle. Despite the shiny ruby appearance of the wine, this is a full-bodied Barolo with plenty of power and true grit, or what the Italians call "grinta." Give those nervous tannins time and patience. Drink date: 2024-2040." Jul 2021

Winery: "In the spring of 2000, the Rivetti family acquired the 8ha Campè Vineyard. The story of this vineyard is quite interesting, and if vines could speak, they would tell you how thankful they are that the Rivetti’s purchased the vineyard. The family took over this south-facing hillside from a producer who never had intentions of making a great wine. In fact, all of the grapes were being sold in bulk to other Barolo producers, and the yields were at the high end of the allowable range for the region. Through a rigorous green harvest, La Spinetta reduced the previous production by 75%, leaving just 25% of the fruit on the vine. The usage of chemicals in the vineyard was prohibited and instead fertilization was carried out utilizing horse manure and extensive manual work throughout the year. Today, the vineyard is full of healthy, strong vines that are over 50 years old and produce exceptionally low yields of extremely high-quality fruit. Campè is a true Cinderella story in Barolo!

The genius of La Spinetta encompasses a vast array of great wines, all boasting an inimitably approachable and voluptuous style. From Moscato to Nebbiolo to Sangiovese, whatever Giorgio touches turns to gold. His Barbareschi and Baroli are at the very top of their category. In fact La Spinetta’s wines are among Italy’s most celebrated, as the winery has attained the coveted Tre Bicchieri award for more than 30 of their wines throughout their relatively short career.
