We're craving comfort food. And what better to go with it than the Vilalva Reserva Douro? It's got a bit of toast and spice, and lots of dark fruit, with good structure and acidity to boot. At this price it's a steal. Try it with steaming bowls of fettucine bolognaise.  Or a Portuguese carne de porco à Alentejana, marinated pork braised with onion, garlic, tomatoes, sweet peppers, piri-piri sauce and clams in their shells. The Portuguese would also highly recommend suckling pig with this bold yet elegant red. We've got a recipe for rabbit stew that we're dying to try with this Reserva Douro. It's made with bacon, mushrooms, onions, garlic, tomatoes, sage and bay leaves all braised in red wine until fork tenderness is achieved. Be sure to have at least one more bottle waiting in the wings to go with an aged Portuguese Serpa sheep's cheese; you're going to love the combination. Bom apetite winelovers!

Wine Enthusiast: "A generous wine that still manages to keep elegance and style. It offers black, juicy fruits that are blended with the spice from wood aging. There are blackberries, plenty of acidity and a dry but always fruity aftertaste. Drink from 2016." Aug 2015

Winery: "Colour: Intense garnet. Aroma: Elegant and exquisite aroma. Intense in wild, ripe fruits with spicy notes and slight toast. Flavour: In the mouth it is quite expressive, revealing a good structure and acidity with a long and pleasant ending.

It is ideal to accompany red meats, game and structured cheeses."
