Norton Privada 2016
Meet the luscious and extremely likeable red which is the Bodega Norton Privada red blend. It is ridiculously well priced for this rating... It's an ambitious Bordeaux-style blend of Malbec, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon which will wake your taste buds right up as you sip your first glass. Try it with grilled chard, sausage and Manchego cheese flatbreads. Hola delicioso. As for what's to come next, keep in mind the hints of smoke, as well as the dark berry flavors in this Argentine red. Beef, lamb, game and steak are all great choices. A classic option is a grilled filet mignon topped with creamy blue cheese. Sea salt oven-roasted potatoes with the steak will make the match with this Bodega Norton even better. Braised rabbit with fennel, tomatoes and shallots will bring out the lovely aromatic complexity of this Malbec blend. Our hands down favorite is a tapenade-stuffed, roasted leg of lamb. It just may make you forget your troubles... If it does, you'll want to open some more Privada to celebrate. Fill your glasses once more and savor them with an aged Cashel blue cheese. It has a voluptuously creamy texture with a delicious blue tang which is perfect for the rich palate and lovely, long finish of this Norton. Ready to get your Olé on, winelovers?!
Antonio Galloni's Vinous: "Bright, dark ruby. Very pure aromas of cassis, blackberry, licorice and dark chocolate are lifted by a building violet topnote. Dry but flavorful black fruit and dark chocolate flavors are still youthfully tight but already display a very sophisticated texture. There's a coolness and clarity here from the 2016 vintage but also very good fruit ripeness and chalky minerality. Finishes with strong but refined tannins and a note of salty minerality. This juicy, penetrating, very long blend is youthfully primary now and needs more time in bottle to expand. It may well eventually merit an even higher rating. (6.22 g/l acidity; aged in 50% new and 50% once-used French oak barrels; made from several low-yielding blocks around Luján de Cuyo). Drinking window: 2021-2028." Sep 2019
Winery: "A deep red blend with rich aromas of black berries. Rich, smooth and elegant. With a lingering finish given by the integration of its three blends. The name “privada” refers to the family’s private reserve, originally enjoyed with only our closest friends. Now, we have reserved some of this harmonius blend of Malbec, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon to share with you."
