93+pts Antonio Galloni's Vinous

Channel your inner Tuscan and open a bottle of Caprili Brunello di Montalcino a couple of hours before you're ready to pour. Warning: the aromas may conjure hallucinations of rolling hills and a patchwork of vineyards, wheat fieldss and olive orchards, all under the most beautiful Tuscan sun. In the meantime, you can check on your leg of lamb with rosemary and garlic as it roasts to a delicious doneness. Or, make a ragu of cinghiale (wild boar) to go with a thick, hearty pappardelle. Set out some Marcona almonds to accompany your first glasses and the wonderful earthy side of this Caprili. Tuscan sausage with beans is a main dish which will go beautifully with that same earthy side. And if you're not in a meaty mood, make it a portabella risotto; don't skimp on the good Parmesan. Looking for a reason to have another glass after all that? A platter of aged Gouda and some dried fruit is your answer. Buon Apetito winelovers!

Antonio Galloni's Vinous:  "Bright red with a pale rim. Blackberry, earthy spices, mint, minerals, game and violet on the very deep but still youthfully reticent nose. Dense, energetic, large-scale and brooding on the palate, offering floral flavors of red and dark berries and underbrush. Finishes extremely long, scented and subtle, featuring very suave tannins. Cellar this beauty for at least another five years, as it will likely blossom into something special; the plus sign on my score indicates that I would not be surprised to find myself scoring this 95 or 96 in the years ahead. Drinking window: 2024-2035." Mar 2019

Winery:  "Softer and less tannic than the Brunello Riserva. This wine has an intense color and aromas with ample notes of red berries. On the palate gives a body of great balance with tannins well integrated into the structure, which ensures elegance and longevity. It is recommended to uncork the bottle a few hours before serving."
