93pts Antonio Galloni's Vinous

Deliciously food friendly, with lovely minerals, light and citrus fruit notes and a solid backbone, the Laurent Fayolle Montis Saint-Peray is the perfect white for seafood and shellfish, especially the richer choices like lobster, crab and sea bass. Hang on though, it pairs wonderfully with land fare too, like chicken, veal, pork and Asian cuisine. We would start with small bowls of shrimp in a coconut curry broth followed by grilled sea bass with lemony sauteed asparagus on the side. If you're not feeling the fish, make it crisp-roasted chicken with fennel and clementines. It will bring out the lovely floral aromas in the wine. Dessert? We think this Saint-Peray would be heavenly with mini lemon tarts topped with some whipped cream. What do you think?

Antonio Galloni's Vinous:  "Light, shimmering yellow. Bright and sharply focused on the nose, displaying suggestions of smoky minerals, white flowers, spice-accented Meyer lemon and pear nectar aromas. Silky and energetic on the palate, offering mineral-driven citrus and orchard fruit flavors that spread out and deepen with air. Closes on a sexy honeysuckle note, showing firm mineral bite and lingering floral and citrus zest qualities." May 2020

Trade Notes: "Made 100% from 40 year old Marsanne hillside vines grown one third on granite and two thirds on chalk.  Owing to the chalk, this is a more structured and minerally style than Fayolle’s white Crozes-Hermitage.  A wine from the southern Rhône of very high quality with good potential age to keep for perhaps 10 years+."
