94pts Wine Spectator

93pts Robert Parker, Jr.'s Wine Advocate

Earthy, with delicious fruit and hints of savory spices, the Saint Cosme Chateauneuf-du-Pape is a guaranteed home run with meaty winter fare. If you haven't braised some short ribs or lamb shanks yet this season, we highly recommend you do so as a pairing for this tasty French red. After browning, we love braising both dishes in red wine and stock with a halved whole head of garlic, chopped onions and garlic, carrots and celery, fresh thyme and bay leaves. The result is magical, and almost as good as the food and the wine together. Cheers!

Wine Spectator:  "A direct, focused, slightly taut style, with a good dose of singed cedar and alder framing the core of red currant, plum and bitter cherry paste flavors. Lots of bay leaf, rosemary and sanguine accents fill in on the finish, which keeps a cedary edge. For fans of the old-school style. Best from 2020 through 2035. 1,000 cases made, 680 cases imported." Nov 2018

Robert Parker, Jr.'s Wine Advocate:  "Sourced from three lieux-dits (including La Crau), Saint Cosme's 2015 Chateauneuf du Pape is a blend of approximately 50% Grenache, 25-30% Mourvèdre and bits and pieces of other varieties. It's full-bodied, rich and spicy, with hints of cumin, licorice, cinnamon and clove all swirling about on the long finish. Drink 2018-2027." Oct 2017

Winery:  "Châteauneuf-du-Pape is famously the strongest, most powerful, and longest-lived wine of the southern Rhône. Louis Barruol’s Châteauneuf-du-Pape from contracted growers is a classic expression of the region with aromas and flavors of cherry, thyme, lavender, truffle, and olives.

Grenache is the pale-colored, red-fruited, and potpourri-scented red grape variety of the southern Rhône and can be paired with both rustic and sophisticated dishes. Full-bodied Grenache-based wines are ideal with stews, braises, and grilled meats, while lighter versions can work well with dark fish and tomato-based dishes such as ratatouille."
