The single vineyard Stone The Crows Three Twins Vineyard Napa Cabernet Sauvignon is one delicious mouthful. It's ready to drink now, and will go terrifically with the rack of lamb with romescu sauce, potatos baked in milk and green beans with shallots we had last night. If only we'd had a bottle... Stone the Crows* indeed!
Antonio Galloni's Vinous: "The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon from Stone the Crows is beautifully polished and nuanced. Bright red cherry, pomegranate, kirsch, mint and wild flowers all develop with air, but it is the wine's textural feel that stands out most. Silky tannins add to the wine's considerable finesse. This is one of the more restrained 2015s readers will come across. I would prefer to give the 2015 at least a few years to allow the tannins to soften. Even at this early stage, though, the 2015 is compelling. This is a superb showing from proprietor Rick Talmadge and winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown. Drink 2020-2030.” Mar 2018
Robert Parker, Jr.'s Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Three Twins Vineyard is very deep inky purple in color and possesses a gorgeous blackcurrant cordial, blueberry tart and plum preserves nose, with touches of sandalwood, dried herbs, lavender and menthol plus a waft of cardamom. Full, concentrated, very pure, rich and vibrant, with velvety tannins and just enough freshness, it finishes long. Drink 2017-2034.” Dec 2017
Wine Enthusiast: "This is an estate-grown red that's thick, rich and concentrated in bold flavors of dark chocolate and blueberry cake. The midpalate is soft and seductive with full-bodied power as a finishing touch of dust and crushed rock builds and emboldens.” Jun 2019
Winery: "In 2015, a vintage defined by a smaller than average crop, both in cluster size and berry size, this wine reached a new level of concentration and complexity. Completely purple-black in the glass, this is a wine defined by mystery and power. Aromatic notes of smoked cedar, blackberry compote and pine bough swell from this glass. The palate suggests blueberry reduction, cinnamon stick, lavender and blossoming jasmine. The tannin profile is medium-grained and present from the front to the back of the palate tightly framing the rich fruit and spice notes. With 3-5 years in the cellar this bold wine will unpack a bit and open up to show even more expressive qualities.
Stone the Crows is a single vineyard, estate grown wine, produced entirely of fruit from the Three Twins Vineyard. Densely planted in 2005 on steep hillsides, the vines are pruned to yield no more than three tons per acre. The fruit is crushed nearby in St. Helena at Mending Wall, and aged for twenty months in French oak."
2015 Vintage: "2015 was a difficult growing season. While the quality of fruit was superb, the yields were about half of a normal harvest. However, the subtly, concentration and balance of the wine is quite remarkable and very approachable even at this time.
*Fun Fact: "“Stone the Crows” is an Australian expression of incredulity or surprise, having very little to do with crows themselves. While there are certainly an abundance of crows in the vineyard, they spend most of their day perched on the fence posts or soaring lazily overhead on the breezes off the lake. They do little harm to the fruit, and live without fear of stoning. We felt the expression was indicative of our initial reaction to the quality of the fruit produced from the vineyard. “Stone the Crows,” what an amazing wine!"
