It takes one vine to produce one glass of Yquem. Probably one of the many reasons it's largely regarded as the finest sweet wine the world has to offer.

In the Sauvage family for over 4 centuries, a winery for 2 of them, Ch̢teau d'Yquem has distinguished itself as the pre-eminent maker of 1er Grand Cru Class̩ Sauternes. Many believe that the only Sauternes an Yquem may be judged against is another vintage of Yquem. Not only are the winemakers highly skilled and knowledgeable, since its inception in 1959, there have only been 33 vintage released. They're rabidly finicky. The lesson: if you can get your hands on any bottle of Chateau d'Yquem 1er Grand cru class̩ Sauternes, you should.

Wine Spectator: "Lightly toasted marshmallow and macadamia nut aromas lead the way, followed by incredibly juicy mirabelle plum, green fig, and glazed pear and peach flavors. As big as this is, there are still plenty of honeysuckle, quinine and chamomile notes kicking the finish into yet another gear. This has purity and length to burn, with decades more to go. Best from 2020 through 2050." Mar 2016
