Get lost in the deep purple, wine lovers. It's made by Michel Rolland. Here's some background on him. Rolland also maintains partnership interests in far-flung regions of the globe, including his involvement with Long Shadows Vintners. His home, however, is in Pomerol, where he owns and manages a number of holdings and fine wine estates: Chateau Le Bon Pasteur in Pomerol, Chateau Bertineau Saint-Vincent in Lalande-de-Pomerol, Chateau Rolland-Maillet in Saint-Emilion, and Chateau Fontenil in Fronsac. In addition, Michel manages the Chateau La Grande Clottee in Lussac-Saint-Emilion under a vineyard lease system. In other words, he's got serious wine game.

Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2015 Pedestal Merlot from Long Shadows is a blend of 75% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10% Petit Verdot aged 22 months in 85% new French oak barrels. Crème de cassis, wood smoke, scorched earth, and graphite characteristics all emerge from this rich, full-bodied, voluptuous beauty that has more mid-palate depth and richness than any other Merlot made in the state. With ample tannin, it will benefit from a year or three and keep for 15. It's a gorgeous wine." Apr 2018

Winery: "An early spring and hot weather conditions during the summer growing season defined the 2015 Columbia Valley vintage. Building on the success of our ongoing canopy management program, we worked with growers throughout the season to hand-prune and trim each vine to protect the grapes from too much afternoon sun and to establish good airflow inside the canopy while maintaining a uniform fruit zone. When fall arrived, conditions nights finished ripening beautifully, and small, thick-skinned berries marked the vintage and produced outstanding, fruit-forward wines.

The 2015 Pedestal offers vibrant aromas of black cherry and ripe blackberries with accents of vanilla and freshly roasted coffee. Expressive and lively on entry, with a richly textured mid-palate and layers of huckleberry, bittersweet chocolate and oak spice that stretch across a lengthy finish."
