We sampled the Alphonse Mellot La Moussiere Sancerre and fell deeply in love. It has stunning minerality, and lovely floral and fruit notes that give it world class food friendliness. Fill your glasses and tuck into a room temperature vegetable terrine of zucchini, asparagus, and leeks. Follow that with sauteed trout and a tarragon butter sauce or grilled halibut drizzled with basil pesto. You'll be glad you did. Refill your glasses and enjoy them with an aged Crottin de Chavignon goat cheese that is a dense mouthful of unparalleled yum. Our hearts are pitter-patting just thinking about it! (And for more sheer delight, make sure you don't miss the winery tasting notes below.) ;)
Winery: "Lively like the look in your eyes, sweet like a kiss. Very fine gold colour with a green sheen. Its nose has a flowery, fruity bouquet. Being pure and honest it is seductive from the outset. Flowers flit around, trees bend down to five their most beautiful fruits to us and the air we breathe is so sweet in this garden full of sweetness that it is intoxicating. Lively, supple and welcoming taste. Predominantly honest in a welcoming balance, it reflects a pretty grape, a fine harvest in the singing and laughter of the men and women pickers. It tells us of work done well in the divine order and Nature's kindness. It is fair, and all one expected and to cap it all there is happiness there.
Pairing suggestions: Fish tartare, mussels a la Charentaise, pike with white butter sauve, chanterelle mushroom omelette, baked Norway lobsters, trout meuniere, pike in saffron, braised ham with white sauve, tripe cooked the Caen way, Chavignol goatsmilk cheeses, puff pastries..."
